The results of a new study suggest that having two or more episodes of depression could as much as double the risk of developing dementia later in life. While the link does not prove causation, researchers say that several factors related to depression could play a role in the development of dementia. For example, when a person is depressed, brain tissue may become inflamed and certain proteins in the brain may increase in ways that could potentially increase the risk of developing dementia.
