Paleontologists searching the Sahara Desert for dinosaur bones got more than they bargained for when they stumbled upon a vast human burial ground along the shores of a lake that dried up long ago. The remains belonged to two distinct civilizations that lived in the same area separated by about a thousand years. The first of the two groups settled there approximately 10,000 years ago. While the Sahara is now the worlds largest desert, changes in the Earths orbit some 12,000 years ago brought seasonal monsoons north, creating what scientists are calling a "green Sahara." Along with the human skeletons, the team found the remains of large fish, crocodiles, turtles, and hippopotami.
